Flying the flag for Beaminster on a global scale.

Any visitors to West Dorset will know that there is very little shortage in things to discover and Beaminster is no different. A bustling town serves as centre stage for trailblazing independent businesses who serve the community, and those who visit our community, with exciting gifts, homeware, clothing, beauty products, food, flowers and more.

But take a step out of the town centre, and that’s where an even more exciting world starts to unfold. We’ve highlighted 3 not-to-be-missed local attractions if you’re visiting Beaminster in the near future.

Black Cow Vodka

Known across the world as one of the smoothest vodkas, Black Cow Vodka was started out of a desire to curb waste and turn whey, a typically under-valued by-product of cheesemaking, into something useful. Made purely from the milk of grass-grazed cows and nothing else, this distilled vodka now serves some of the world’s most prestigious hotels, restaurants, and bars.

Available in several local shops in Beaminster, the team have recently opened their doors to their incredible industry with the launch of a beautiful new tasting experience. Visit the Black Cow Bar & Kitchen and experience their story in the original, natural surroundings where the first Black Cow idea was sown.  Book your Distillery visit, or enjoy a Distillery Experience with lunch, featuring a cocktail-making class, a tour of the distillery and a very special lunch in the Bar & Kitchen. More details here.

Furleigh Estate

Just under 4 miles from Beaminster’s town centre, lies 85 acres of vineyard, lakes and grazing land surrounded by woodland that serves as home to Furleigh Estate – an estate whose 22,000 vines produce a spectacular selection of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meurnier, Bacchus and Rondo wines.

After the build of a beautiful winery on the estate in 2007, Furleigh Estate now produce award-winning wines that are sold all over the UK and the world. From vineyard tours to Furleigh Events, a visit to Beaminster can’t be complete without exploring this beautiful estate. Visit their website for opening times and more information.

Mapperton Estate

Forming the backdrop for big screen favourites such as Far from the Madding Crowd, Emma, and Restoration, featuring Robert Downey Jr and Hugh Grant, Mapperton Estate is a stalwart of the Beaminster community when it comes to impressive places to visit. Situated just 2 miles out of town, this impressive House & Gardens is open to the public from March to October each year, and is home to the Earl & Countess of Sandwich.

Explore the impressive collections of art in the House, wander through the magical gardens, or enjoy some of the freshest meals prepared in The Coach House Café. During the Beaminster Festival week, events are often held on the lawns of the estate where visitors can enjoy a picnic while taking in a show.
