People all over the world are changing the way they work, and one of our own local legends, Lucy Wright, is doing that too! So, for those Mums and Dads who are petrified by the idea of becoming chief educator overnight, Lucy is making it easier for you!
About Lucy
Lucy is Head of English at The Sir John Colfox Academy in Bridport, so many of you probably already know her. She tells us that she has so many students now at home but needing some structure to help them work, and she wanted to help them to be able to check in with her now and then, to keep things as normal as possible and to see a friendly face. She tells us: “My aim is to do fun English activities for the younger ones, GCSE curriculum tasks and revision for KS4 and coursework / revision for my A Level English Language group. All our 6th form groups are Colfox / Beaminster School mixed students as we have a shared provision across both schools”.
Lucy has been at Colfox for 20 years now and Head of English for quite a few of them… This is year 21 and the strangest of the lot, she says! “I teach mostly KS4 and KS5 but have taught from yr7-13. It was a sad day yesterday as the year 11 and 13 were so shocked by the news that their exams were off. They had been working towards them for years and so it’s like their whole purpose has suddenly gone. They are so worried about how they will get grades and whether that will impact college / 6th form / university applications. They will all be fine but there are so many unknowns for them,” she tells us. And that’s why she has created the perfect place for them to collect (virtually) and find some familiarity and friendliness!
How to get started
Lucy has set up a fantastic YouTube channel and is adding brilliant content constantly. She’s set up 3 playlists so that people can choose either KS2/3 activities, KS4 or KS5 content. So, it’s simply a case of settling down and finding the playlist that suits you best.

Lucy is back in school sporadically over the upcoming weeks to provide essential childcare for children of key workers and for our more vulnerable students. But she will be aiming to upload content as often as possible – and provide some essential connection to that which is familiarity, and perhaps a bit of fun.
And, if you want to see where Lucy’s adventure to video started, well, this fantastic little video which caught the news, a story of a monkey called Hobo, put Beaminster on the map – even then!
