Update following the Town Council’s Finance & General Purposes Committee meeting
On Tuesday, 17th March, Beaminster Town Council held a meeting of its Finance & General Purposes Committee. Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and in line with Government advice this was the final meeting of the Council and its Committees for a while, therefore it was important to look at the monies spent during the current financial year and to approve the budget for 2020/21 to give financial guidance to the Town Clerk until Council were able to meet again.
The budget framework was set in November 2019 and during the meeting on 17th March a number of minor amendments were agreed such as: lowering the projected income for the Public Hall in light of cancelled hirings, the addition of £900 to the community resilience scheme to help our vulnerable residents during this difficult time.
Once the pandemic is over, the coming year will be a busy one for the Council. We were given £70,000 by former West Dorset District Council to build new public toilets at the rear of the Public Hall to replace the current toilets in Fleet Street scheduled to close in 2022. The Public Hall is to be extended to provide additional storage for both the Council and regular hirers, work was scheduled to start in the coming weeks but has now been postponed. The Council will continue to enhance the website ‘Discover Beaminster’, pursue funding for the Skatepark, agree new ‘Welcome to Beaminster’ signs, investigate installation of a Speed Indicator Sign in Tunnel Road, bunting and floral displays in the Square.
