Join the Beaminster Scarecrow Treasure Hunt – and WIN!
Beaminster will be coming alive in August with strange creations taking residence all over our town!
Now that the summer holidays are finally here, one can’t help but feel slightly confused under the circumstances. Where once we would head for the beach, or a local festival, we’re limited in what we can do and how we can do it. That’s why, we’re excited to let you invite you to take part in Beaminster’s first Scarecrow Treasure Hunt event, throughout the month of August.
Following all the social distancing and group gathering guidelines, we’ve created a treasure hunt that aims to bring families out of the house and give you a chance to win one of 3 £100 gift vouchers to spend in Beaminster. Whether you want to spend it all on sweets from the Coop, or racks of ribs from Nick Tett’s butcher, or whether you wish to spruce up the garden with plants from Little Groves, you will have the choice to spend it anywhere you like!

Here’s how the Treasure Hunt Works
Scarecrows will be placed throughout the town along a mapped out route. Your aim will be to visit every scarecrow on the map and find the hidden Letter that will be located somewhere on the scarecrow. Write down the letter you find on your Treasure Hunt map, and once you’ve found all 9 letters, you will need to unscramble them and figure out what the secret word is that these letters spell out. BUT BEWARE – nothing is ever quite straight-forward. There will be decoy Scarecrows along your route to throw you off the scent! Don’t be fooled by them! Stick to your map carefully, and you’ll find all 9 letters! (It may be worth your while having a sniff around the decoy scarecrows as there will be spot-prizes throughout the month, hidden on any 1 of them). Once you’ve completed your form, pop it through the letterbox of the Town Council Offices at the Public Hall. The Treasure Hunt ends at midnight on 31 August. All correct entries will be entered into a lucky draw, and winners will be announced in September.
Download your Treasure Hunt Map & Form from the above link. We’ll also make sure to leave some copies with shops throughout Beaminster too!
What’s up for grabs?
3 winners will be drawn from all the correct entries, in September, and will have the chance to win 1 of 3 gift vouchers worth £100 each, to be spent at a business of their choice in Beaminster. Vouchers cannot be redeemed for cash, and vouchers will be limited to be spent with 1 business only. Once we notify you of your winning, we’ll ask you where you’d like to spend your money in Beaminster. We will then arrange for a gift voucher for that business, and hand that over to you to enjoy.
Make your own Scarecrow and WIN!
And if you’re in Beaminster, why not add to the fun and create your own scarecrow! We want to turn Beaminster into a colourful, fun place to live and visit – so why not turn your own creative hand to building your own scarecrow? The Scarecrow Hunt will be running from 1st to 31st August – so get sewing and stuffing, colouring and painting, and pop your own Scarecrow outside of your home, flat, business or school. And there’s a bonus in it for you too! In the week of the 1st September, we’re inviting ALL of you to bring your scarecrows to the Town Square – where they will be displayed, and on Saturday 5 September, official judging will take place to select the Best Dressed Scarecrow! An independent adjudicator will then vote for their favourite best-dressed Scarecrow – and the winner could win a prize too! More information to follow soon.
