You may have noticed a few changes happening around Beaminster over the past week or so, with the culmination of beautiful new bunting being put up in the Square yesterday afternoon. A few pretty hanging baskets, some additional signage to draw attention to something in particular. Well, it’s all part of a bigger plan.
Beaminster is restarting – and we want to shout about it as best we can.
The past 4 months have been challenging for all of us; businesses have faced closure (with many not having access to or qualifying for *any* government support), others having to stand firm in the firing line to carry the rest of us when we couldn’t carry ourselves, many of us have been ill and scared, while many have had to drastically change the way they do things, simply in order to survive. We’ve clapped, we’ve sung Dame Vera Lynn tunes, we’ve saluted Capt Tom. We’ve delivered shopping and made up food parcels, we’ve collected and delivered medicines, walked our neighbour’s dogs, made medical scrub uniforms out of bedsheets. Say what you will, these past 4 months have been unlike any most of us have ever experienced.
That’s why we are ready to celebrate our town opening up again. As our businesses cautiously open their doors and welcome patrons back in and as we start to visit friends (albeit from a distance) and don face masks when we shop, we are celebrating something much bigger than this. We’re celebrating survival, determination, and victory. We’re celebrating those who have given selflessly of their time and we’re celebrating those who are here to say, ‘Hey! We made it through. Barely, but we’re here!”.
As part of a Beaminster Restart campaign, the Town Council has launched a number of initiatives to turn Beaminster into a festive and welcoming place where people will want to visit again. We want to remind people (both local residents as well as those who may be visiting, or from neighbouring villages and towns) that our businesses are open, that we invite their support and that we welcome them all back in again.
So, over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll be kicking off a few exciting things – of which the bunting is just one.
All will be revealed soon – so make sure you’re following Discover Beaminster on Facebook, or that you’re keeping an eye on this website for the latest news!
