Beaminster Eco Church wins gold!
We are overjoyed to hear that Beaminster has taken the gold prize in the Eco Church Awards! According to the awards, This is only the twelfth such award in England and Wales and St Mary’s is the first church to receive this award in the Diocese of Salisbury. Eco Church is an A Rocha UK’s award scheme for churches in England and Wales who want to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God’s earth.
The award comes after three years of sustained effort by St Mary’s Eco Committee which included a change to more environmentally friendly heating, ECO events, litter picking, toilet twinning, and even a plan to be zero carbon by 2030.
The driving force behind the work is Dr Gill Perrott who signed up the parish and church for the ECO Church scheme.
Revd Canon David Baldwin said, “I’d like to congratulate Gill and all her team on this fantastic achievement. As our local eco-warrior she has changed not only the Church but also our whole way of life in Beaminster. We are now more fully active stewards of God’s creation.”
What a wonderful wonderful achievement – and we send our biggest congratulations to EVERYONE that was involved in this!
