When a community comes together, good things happen – especially for Dave the Cat!
In a world that’s filled with negativity, often dictating the way we feel and run our daily lives, every so often a little story of hope comes across our path that reminds us about the power of community, working together and putting aside our differences.
And this week, we had a classic example of how a few people in Beaminster did just that.
In one of the Beaminster Facebook groups, a community member posted a photo of a cat that was stuck up a tree in the Beaminster School woods. She’d discovered the cat, while she was out walking. From what we understand, the cat appeared to be stuck quite high up and had no intention (or ability) to get down. So, Pat asked for help.
Pat’s post was shared in various other Beaminster groups, and before you know it, a team of people had assembled to see how they could help to get the poor thing down. All eager to help, but without a ladder tall enough, things were looking pretty grim.
Suggestions were made to call Beaminster Fire Station to help, or to get the Town Council’s environmental warden to help and calls were even made to tree surgeons to see if they could help. The RSPCA were unable to offer immediate assistance, and so the team decided to spring into action themselves.
It proved to be somewhat of an unsteady task, as the tree that the cat had decided to perch in, was simply too thin and unstable for anyone to try and climb up, or rest a ladder against.
But by the end of the evening, we were all rewarded with the wonderful news that the team had managed to get the cat safely down thanks to a rescue effort that included a rope, a ladder, and a land rover. We don’t quite know what the process was, but all we do know is that Dave, the cat, was safely home and happy!
Well done to everyone who helped, offered advice and shared information to lead to this happy ending!
