Beaminster’s Coop drives success of local community initiatives
The team at Coop Beaminster has been busy busy busy. With hands in all kinds of great initiatives that benefit our local community, the Coop team has been raising funds, donating, gathering donations and working tirelessly to give back! As much as they may appear to be part of a larger chain of stores, each Cooperative has a large focus to supporting and building local community initiatives too. Rachel Brown, Member Pioneer with the Coop, tells us what they’re up to!
Community Fridge
Exciting news abounds that there are plans for a Community Fridge to be established in Beaminster. Working together with Jo Neary and a number of other individuals in the community, the Coop Beaminster has already donated £250 towards the fund; a great initaitive that aims to support and provide for the whole of the Beaminster Community. More information will follow on the development of this, and how you can be involved!
Fairtrade Fortnight
For two weeks each year at the end of February and start of March, thousands of individuals, companies and groups across the UK come together to share the stories of the people who grow our food and drinks, mine our gold and who grow the cotton in our clothes, people who are often exploited and underpaid. Fairtrade Fortnight 2021 plans to highlight the growing challenges that climate change brings to farmers and workers in the communities Fairtrade works with. Fairtrade Fortnight started on 22nd February, and to mark the occasion, Beaminster Coop has delivered a Fairtrade taster pack to the residents and staff at Abbeyfield. Coop has been supporting Fairtrade for over 25 years to help overcome unfairness in the food chain. It is their goal to make it easier for customers to support communities around the world as well as the local community causes. For more information about this, click here.
Local Community Causes
Local Community Causes is a Coop initiative where, as a Member, every £1 you spend on selected Coop products and services, 2p goes into your membership account and Coop gives the same amount to support community organisations and local causes. Giving back to the community is a huge part of what the Coop Beaminster team does, and the local causes for Beaminster include:
- Beaminster Preschool
- Prout Bridge Project
- 1st Beaminster Scout group.
The good news is that if you’re running a local initiative and wish you apply to become a Local Community Cause, applications for the next round of Local Community Causes will open on 4th May. If you are interested in applying to be considered as a Local Community Cause, please contact Lesley, your local Member Pioneer, for more information. You can get in touch with her by email [email protected]. And if you’re interested in becoming a member of Coop, simply visit https://membership.coop.co.uk/.
Well done, Team Coop!
